Almost all my patients ask about the toothbrushes. When should I change my toothbrush?, what kind of toothbrushes should I buy? Do you recommend electrical toothbrushes? …..
Everybody knows that if we have a car, we should buy tires for the season and change it twice a year. And we should buy tires according to the rims and replace it if they can’t hold the ground good enough.
This is like your toothbrushes. You should buy it according to our oral conditions and replace it at the end of its’ physical life. If you have crowns and fillings you should get a toothbrush for these purpose. If you have a gingival problems you will get a toothbrush for this. So it depends on the situations in your mouth.
What if you don’t change it at the end of physical life? What if you buy a toothbrush which isn’t for our dental condition ? If you don’t change it in every 3 months toothbrush bristles will be less effective to remove plaque (bacteria) from our teeth and gums. If you can’t remove plaque properly. You will have gingivitis and cavities.
If we buy a toothbrush which is not suitable for our oral condition. It can make our oral problem worse. If we are grinding our teeth and we use a hard toothbrush at the end of the day we will have a lot of abrasion in our teeth.
Keeping your toothbrushes away from your toilet and using a cover in your travels will make germs away from your mouth.
Electrical toothbrushes will help you about brushing your teeth and gums in a proper way. Don’t forget investing in your oral health will help you keeping your smile for longer time.
Sometimes just brushing won’t be enough for your oral hygiene. You should floss and use a mouthwash for your beautiful smile.
